Baby Curtains
Make the Right Choices And Help Your Baby Sleep Better

Choosing the right baby curtains is not just a matter of decorative taste - they can really help your newborn get a better night's sleep.

How so?

Gina Ford, in her bestselling New Contented Little Baby Book, cites research that shows how the chemicals in the brain work differently in the dark, helping prepare your little one for sleep more effectively. She also believes that even the smallest chink of light can wake a baby up before he is ready.

This goes against traditional wisdom of having a nightlight. Indeed the jury is still out on this issue. The Contented Little Baby Book is , it has to be said, the Marmite of the parenting world: new mums either love or loathe the strict routines.

My personal experience, as a mum of 2 young children, is that a darkened room did seem to help my kids fall asleep more soundly, but by the time my eldest had progressed to toddlerhood (with all its imaginary monsters), a nightlight had become indispensable.

We decided on blackout blinds and tab top curtains and this worked well – the tab top curtains softening the edges of the blinds.

If you are an anxious parent-to-be and feel undecided when it comes to having a nightlight or a darkened room at bedtime, why put up the blinds first and see how it goes? It’s then no hassle to add a nightlight later on if you feel the need for one.

Like so much in life, baby curtains / blackout blinds /nightlights are something you need to try out for yourself. No two babies are ever the same.
